How will I know when the biennial fee is due?
You will receive an automated email when the window has opened for payment of the biennial fee.
I was recently admitted to this court. Do I need to pay the biennial fee?
Pursuant to General Order 2026-3, all attorneys who were admitted on or before September 30, 2026, must pay the 2026 biennial fee. Fees will be collected every two years thereafter from date of payment of the prior fee or new admission to this court.
I have retired, resigned, or no longer practice in the United States District Court for the District of Colorado. Do I need to pay the biennial fee?
No. Your status will automatically change to inactive upon nonpayment of the biennial fee. Once your account is in inactive status, you will not receive further requests for payment.
I am an attorney for a federal agency. Am I required to pay the biennial fee?
No. Federal government attorneys are exempt from the biennial fee. If you received an email requesting payment of the biennial fee, please contact COD_AttorneyServices@cod.uscourts.gov .
I am a member of the CJA Panel. Am I required to pay the biennial fee?
Yes, you must pay the biennial fee to maintain active status in this court’s bar. CJA Panel attorneys are not exempt from the biennial fee.

Which payment methods may I use to pay the biennial fee?
You must pay online using the Treasury Department’s payment site, pay.gov. The court cannot accept non-electronic forms of payment. The following payment methods are accepted by pay.gov:

To which email address are the biennial fee automated notifications sent?
Automated notifications for the biennial fee are sent to the primary email address associated with your CM/ECF account.

I need to pay the biennial fee on behalf of an attorney. Do I need the payment link from the reminder email to pay the fee?
No. Anyone can pay an attorney's biennial fee by searching for the attorney's name above.
Can I pay the biennial fee for multiple attorneys at once?
No. A separate transaction must be completed for each attorney.
What happens if I don't pay the biennial fee?
Failure to pay the biennial fee by the due date will result in a loss of e-filing privileges with this court.
